I was in a meeting yesterday where part of the topic was how to help people grow in their understanding of the nature and character of God through a reflection on His attributes.  Since then I’ve been thinking about my next sermon series and the first sermon in that series in particular and a focus on what we need to know about God to trust Him more deeply (series title = “Necessities of Life”).   And I’ve also had a lengthy conversation with someone who is confused about God and the purpose of life.

And all that combined has made John Knight’s recent post “Hurting People Need to Know the Character of God” particularly helpful and encouraging (John’s blog, The Works of God is worthy of a bookmark in your toolbar).

When God helped me see that the healing accounts are primarily about God and not about healing, I could see those same miracles as wonderful and hopeful even though my son would not experience the same sort of healing.
